“I Have a Dream”

This was the thrust of Martin Luther King Jr’s famous speech. He had a dream of a time when all men would be equal and all men would be granted life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Since the giving of this 1963 speech in a march in Washington, D.C., great gains have been made. Racism and segregation are not as common as they were in the early 1960s. But Dr. King’s desire for a change that would unite mankind and not bring about physical violence but be on a higher plane of dignity and discipline has not totally been realized. As we observe Dr. King’s birthday today, we are reminded of social issues of today. But it also brings to mind a day in God’s kingdom when ALL saved men will live in peace and serve the Lord God Almighty! The answer of correcting social injustice is not in the laws of man but in hearts filled with the love of God! When Jesus comes, Jew and Gentile, bond and free, black and white – all will live in harmony! Hopefully, as Christians, we can personally accomplish this now. May God’s grace be sufficient!
